Shirley Goldsmith (née Halpern), made her eternal transition on June 30, 2024 having reached the glorious centenarian milestone. Shirley was the beloved daughter and only child of Albert and Esther (née Newman) Halpern. Beloved wife of the late Irving Asher (m. 1951) and of the late William Goldsmith (m. 1990). Niece of Ida Bloom, Sidney Newman and Hyman Newman. Cousin of the late Marilyn Silver and late Sylvia Shapiro. Second cousin to Jack Freedman and to the late Susan Shellito. Third cousin of Robert “Bobby” Shellito. Adored “Adopted Mom” to Victor Alam, Anila Farrell, and the late Lubna Alam. Cherished “Adopted Grandmother” to Zarish Alam, Nazish Alam, and Ryan Farrell. Shirley pursued life with true joie de vivre and a profound humanitarian heart focused on elevating the world around her. Shirley proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Passionate about life and people, Shirley’s resounding legacy is of devoted patriotism, fierce compassion, committed philanthropy, and unconditional love and generosity, colored in with her brilliant and wild wit about life, all the-in-betweens, and it’s ultimate grandeur. Shirley was a dedicated member and donor to countless organizations and charities spanning across decades. A few of the many dear to Shirley’s heart were Diskin Orphan Fund of Israel, The American Legion, Jewish United Fund, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, International Children’s Fund, International Rescue Committee, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, B’nai B’rith International, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, Operation Homefront, American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Friends of Zion, Best Friends Animal Society, World Vision, & Public Citizen.
